From animal to finished product

For us, an alpaca is not just an animal with a number on its ear.

Each one has a unique personality and it is natural that each one has its own name. Respect for the animals is the key to good products.

Born in safe conditions

We spend a lot of time with our animals so that they feel safe with us and have a good life. They are not just a number on an ear tag, but they all have their own personalities and unique names. Åke, Aud, Bailey, Claude and Goldie are just a few of them.

For us, respect for the animals is the most important thing – we put animal welfare first.

Distinctive personality

Alpacas are lovely creatures that are easy to love. You can never get enough of their long eyelashes and funny expressions. In many ways, they are as different as we humans – some are life-lovers who are at their best when they can lie out in the sun and observe, others are playful and energetic and use every opportunity to show off, or those who would rather just roll around in the sandpit.

Our motto

Our motto is "From animal to finished product".

This means that we are responsible for the entire life cycle of our animals. Right from the time the little alpacas (cria) are born and stay with their mother for as long as they want, to the days when they wander around the pastures or go under cover if they wish.

Alpacas tolerate the Norwegian climate well, and can be kept outside all year round. But they need shelter from the rain.

Social community

Alpacas are distinct herd animals and thrive best with others. We respect this, and the result is calm and robust animals. We talk to our animals a lot and spend a lot of time with them.

We feel safe that we too are seen as part of their extended family.

Fiber from happy animals

Once a year, it's time to shear the animals. This happens at home on the farms, in familiar surroundings. We always use professional shearers who do the job safely and efficiently. This causes as little stress as possible for the animals.

The change in an alpaca's appearance – from the slightly teddy-like appearance they have right before shearing, to the slim bodies that emerge from under all the fiber – is fascinating.

Alpaca Meat from Gullpakka

Alpacas have been a domesticated animal for over 6,000 years for their meat and fiber (wool). The Incas in South America did not have cattle; they had llamas and alpacas. And alpaca meat has continued to be an important part of the menu in Peru, Chile and Bolivia ever since.

We do not want the animals to be exposed to any form of stress prior to slaughter, and have therefore chosen to build our own farm slaughterhouse rather than transport the animals to a slaughterhouse.

We are approved by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority for slaughtering farmed game in fences (alpacas and llamas), cutting facilities for farmed game and game processing facilities.
