Hand carved wooden hiking cup

Aage forages his local Norwegian forrests to find the perfect birch tree burls (knots) to make his hand carve hiking cups. From the time he finds the perfect tree burl, 1 year of drying time, and up to 10 hours to carve, this labour and time intensive process reveals to true beauty of the wood.

Aage chooses to use the natural burls found on the birch trees so the wood grain is round like the cups, making them incredibly strong, crack resistant and durable.

Aage Bergedahl comes from Jevnaker, in Eastern Norway and started with knife making in 1989. He mostly makes hunting knives, and has received many awards throughout Norway for his craftsmanship.
